IS HARRY REID OUT-OF-TOUCH? A SPECIAL WASHINGTON WHITE-WASH WEEK IN REVIEW:

• Harry Reid claims to be “second to none” in his work on behalf of Nevada’s leading economic industry. According to his campaign web page, he also claims to be basking in the glow of “positive news on the economy’s robust growth” (Harry Reid attacks Sue on his campaign website)

• The Ritz-Carlton in Lake Las Vegas files bankruptcy – announcing hundreds of Nevadans will be losing their jobs (The Las Vegas Sun news story)

• The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced the sharpest decline in gaming revenues to the state in history (The Las Vegas Review Journal’s news story)

• Reno-based IGT – the largest private employer in northern Nevada – announced it was closing down a major portion of its global operations due to the continued impacts of the recession (The Las Vegas Sun’s news story)

• The Station Casino Inc. subsidiary that invested in and manages Green Valley Ranch resort in Henderson, NV, filed for bankruptcy protection (The Las Vegas Sun news story)

That’s quite a week for a career politician in Washington. What would Nevada do without him?

Congratulations to Scott Brown!

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

“I am thrilled to learn that Scott Brown has become the next senator from Massachusetts.  His win – in one of the most Democrat-dominant states in the union – demonstrates how far out of touch, controversial and unpopular Harry Reid’s policies of higher taxes, higher debt and higher unemployment are for the nation.

“We were happy to donate phone lines from our campaign office in Las Vegas so people in Nevada could make get-out-the-vote calls to voters in Massachusetts.

“This is an historic victory for real, common-sense solutions and yet another resounding wake-up call to Harry Reid.  We can only wonder if he will finally decide to listen.”

Tarkanian’s Latest False and Misleading Allegation

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Danny Tarkanian is once again attacking me with a false and misleading allegation that I would have voted for the TARP bailout vote under President Bush in 2008. Fortunately, many Nevada conservatives are now questioning Danny’s desperate tactics as he tries to mislead Nevada Republican primary voters.

In a recent interview, I stated that it was easy for people to say now that voting against TARP at the time was wrong – and in all honesty, I cannot say that such a NO vote would have been easy. I wasn’t there – nor was Danny. In fact, true fiscal conservatives I deeply respect and admire happened to vote in favor of TARP – including Senators John Thune, Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn – and probably the most conservative of them all – Senator Tom Coburn. Apparently, Danny Tarkanian believes neither of these conservatives are qualified leaders or principled conservatives. That’s some standard for a guy who has spent three of the last four election cycles shopping for an office – and getting defeated every step of the way.

I’m proud to announce that I am the first Senate candidate in NV to announce my support for Sen. Thune’s amendment being considered this week in the Senate – which will refund any unspent TARP money and require all spent dollars be repaid to the American taxpayer – with interest. I was also the first candidate to sign a pledge promising to revoke the Reid government-run healthcare bill should it pass and get signed into law.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my positions, and for not falling for the desperate attacks from my opponent.
